November & December

Steam Trains run on selected dates in November & December! Why not join us for a spot of Christmas shopping, delight in a beautiful River Cruise or riverside walk or find yourself a bar or cafe with a roaring log fire and just settle down for a cosy mug of hot chocolate and a bite to eat. There's plenty to see and do even in the cooler months.

Tickets are still available for these services so do come along. THEY ARE NOT SOLD OUT. Just be aware these tickets do NOT include the Santa experience.

Santa Express **SO SORRY, WE ARE SOLD OUT**

NOTE: ALL TRAINS DEPART AND RETURN TO/FROM PAIGNTON (TQ4 6AF). Our station is alongside the mainline station on Torbay Road.

This year our mini Panto on the train will be Peter Pan and ALL passengers (young and old alike) have to ensure evil Captain Hook is driven away so Santa and his helpers can come and visit the children - bearing gifts of course! We have three trains a day on each of the 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd & 24th December. You will arrive at Paignton where our log fires will be burning strongly. Board the train to Kingswear and return. During your journey a festive mince pie and a glass of mulled wine can be enjoyed (by the adults!). Santa will visit you at your seat with his sleigh - make sure you chase off the Captain Hook and children will receive a gift!

Santa Express trains depart Paignton at 10:30, 12:45 and 15:15 each day and the experience lasts for c.1½ hours.

TripAdvisor reviews:

  • "Had a trip on the Santa Express. mince pies and mulled wine. train toot, tooting through the country side. everyone waving from the road and beach. what fun! Back to the train. what a trip down memory lane. the engine looked immaculate, all sparkling, clippy all dressed in 1960 uniform, guard with his red flag waving the train off. Then the smoke from the engineer when we went through the tunnel and chug, chug. chug. All in all it was really wonderful so if you are in Devon don't miss this wonderful treat. A must."
  • "We went on the Santa steam train on Christmas Eve and it was magical. My boys loved it! Aged 4 & 10. Even the presents they received from Father Christmas were really nice, not cheap tat! Will be going again this year."

Christmas Shopping

Christmas Shoppers are catered for with our dedicated carriage on the Santa Express. Enjoy a great day of shopping in the numerous quirky and stylish Dartmouth shops. Glass of mulled wine on the train.

Between Christmas & New Year

Our popular Yuletide steam trains will be running once more this year. We will be open every day 27th-31st December (and these dates coincide with the opening of Greenway House & Garden too). So, turn off the TV, forget the turkey leftovers and get the family out for the day! Why not combine your tip with a River Cruise (check dates on the leaflet link above).
