South Devon Steam Railway

Father Christmas comes and sees us on the South Devon Railway every year.

He and all his elves will all be back to see us again this December, when he will be on more trains than ever before!

Your Santa-by-Steam train journey

During your trip from Buckfastleigh to the North Pole*, all the children go and see Father Christmas in his wonderful grotto to collect their Christmas present and enjoy a drink and a biscuit.

The grown ups aren't forgotten: there's a warming glass of mulled wine or a non alcoholic alternative and a mince pie for each of them.

The journey takes an hour and a half to two hours.

All the trains start and finish at Buckfastleigh.

This year, Santa's trains run on 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th and 17th - 24th December inclusive.

Train times will be published later this year when we'll also be open for booking. Watch this space!

*Well, it's Totnes really!

"My family and I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the Santa by Steam trip on Saturday at 10am. It was the first time our grandchildren had been old enough to go and they were so excited by the whole experience. It was such a delightful trip with everyone working so hard to make sure we all enjoyed ourselves so I would be really grateful if you could pass on our thanks to all who made the day so special. We had a lovely meal in the cafe after so it was a perfect morning."

"Just a note to say how much all three generations of us enjoyed our trip on the Santa Train yesterday. It was all so well organised by your friendly volunteers and we had a really great trip."
