By far the easiest way to get to Exmoor Zoo is by car. For car satellite navigation the post code is EX31 4SG. The zoo is situated along the A399 mid way between Combe Martin and South Molton. Once you leave the the North Devon link road (the A361) it is exactly 10 miles along on the left hand side of the A399. This route approach on the A399 will take you past the granite quarries and Brayford. Brown tourist signs will direct you to the lane turning off the A399. The zoo is then 1/4 a mile down this lane. If you approach from the coast of North Devon the exact position is between Bratton Fleming and Exmoor Gate on the A399. Again brown tourist signs will direct you to us.
By Public transport/Bus
Only one bus service operates near to the zoo. This is the A310 that departs from Barnstaple (the bus central station for this area) to Lynton and returns. Please click here for scheduled times of the service . You will have to tell the driver you wish to visit the zoo and he will drop you on the A399 at our turning. Please be aware this will now require a walk of 1/4 a mile down a country lane and back when you have finished your visit to us.
Railway access is possible only to Barnstaple. This is a branch line operating from Exeter to Barnstaple referred to as the Tarka line which terminates at Barnstaple. Time tables are available from here. A walk is then required to get to the Barnstaple central bus station and to continue on public service transport you will have to catch the 310 bus to Lynton.
About the zoo
Exmoor zoo is on a gentle slope. It is positioned on the side of a south west facing valley. The average gradient is 1 in 12, although two short steep slopes (1 in 5) are to be found in the grounds. At least 80% of all paths are laid to tarmac for ease of wheelchair and push chair access and level paths exist between the gentle slopes. All other paths are laid to scree.
