A Bijou Theatre Company spokesperson says:-

“Bijou Theatre Productions is delighted to stage “Butterflies are Free”, a comedy by Leonard Gershe, for its opening 2016 production. This is a delightful play about the struggle between an over-protective mother and her son’s bid for independence.

When son, Don, moves into an apartment on his own, he makes a ‘contract’ with his mother that she will not visit him for at least two months. After one month, an actress, Jill, moves into the next apartment, and they slowly become friends. Mother is not delighted by this blossoming friendship, and she tries to persuade Jill to break it off. Jill’s favourite quote is from Dickens’ Bleak House – “I only ask to be free. The butterflies are free ………” and Jill feels this applies to Don.

Bijou is so pleased to announce that the very talented Maggie Campbell has agreed to sit in the ‘directorial seat’ for this production, placing it all into a very safe pair of hands. Maggie has assembled, in her cast of four, a very exciting ensemble: Bijou warmly welcomes Anna Reynolds back, after too long an absence, to play ‘Mother’. Peter Hubble – fresh from his stage triumph as ‘Simple Simon’ in the Paignton 2015 Pantomime – plays the lead role of Don, ably displaying his versatility and dealing superbly with the sensitivities of this part. Bijou also welcomes two ‘new faces’ to Bijou audiences to complete the cast line-up, Katie Daymond and Jo Mortlock, who are former members of the Torbay Acting Factory.

The production runs at The Palace Theatre, Paignton, from Wednesday 10th February to Saturday 13th February inclusive @ 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 each, with concessions, and are obtainable from The Palace Theatre Box Office, Paignton, – Telephone number 00.”
