Taxis in Torquay - Cab

We really are blessed in the UK. Travel just a short amount of time in any direction, from any point, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to come across a beautiful beach or rugged countryside of some kind. Devon is a favourite for thousands of holidaymakers every year, especially families, attracted by its accessibility, stunning countryside and variety of things to do for families.

If you’re thinking about a family holiday in Devon and are looking for ways to keep everyone entertained, check out our pick of five attractions guaranteed to put a smile on the face of even the pickiest of children.

House of Marbles

At first glance you might think that a marble museum didn’t sound like the most exciting way to spend an afternoon, but think again - the House of Marbles has something for everyone including amazing old-fashioned marble runs, live glass blowing, a sweet cafe and a cracking shop, featuring a marble pick and mix. Definitely worth a visit.

Exeter Underground Passages

Exeter itself is a beautiful city, with plenty for families of all ages, but if you like an adventure do pay a visit to the city’s underground passages. Dating back to the 14th century, these ancient passageways stretch out underneath the city, giving a fascinating insight into Exeter’s history. Not only that, but you get to wear a hard hat, which is always exciting for kids.

The beaches

One of the main draws to Devon is the beaches, and families really are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches in Devon. Sidmouth, Exmouth and Dawlish Warren are always popular but we’re pretty sure that wherever you go along the Devon coast you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you take some pocket money for a round of Devonshire ice creams or Devon cream teas.

The National Trust

The National Trust manages numerous properties, stretches of coastline and areas of countryside in Devon and over recent years the organisation has worked hard to attract more families. No longer the preserve of the retired, The National Trust has plenty of offer young children including play areas, treasure trails and much more. Killerton is a popular choice in Devon, with lots of gardens for little ones to explore and buggy and toddler friendly walks.

The Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary

Surely worth a visit purely in admiration of the pairing of two such seemingly random and unconnected animals? The randomness of it aside, the butterfly farm and otter sanctuary makes for a fun afternoon out, especially if you catch one of the regular otter feedings. Once you’ve had your fill, the steam train leaves from just outside.
